What is Burning Man?
Burning Man is an annual gathering where people bring their ideas to life through installations, sculptures, and interactive art in the Black Rock Desert in the United States. It becomes
a temporary utopian city where brands and commerce disappear — replaced by co-creation, gifting, and radical self-expression.

The idea has spread across the world, and since 2025, a new community has begun forming
in the Balkans.

This May, we gather in Montenegro to create PLAMEN — an event built on the principles

of Burning Man.

At its core are art pieces we build with our own hands,

and camps where any idea – even the wildest one – can

take shape.

Here, everyone participates. No one is just a spectator.

Event Dates 2026:

May 16–19 — Build (site preparation)
May 19–23 — The celebration
May 24–25 — Strike (teardown)

Take a look at how PLAMEN went in 2025:

PLAMEN follows the principles of Burning Man
Read them and see if you share this approach:
  • Radical Inclusion
There are no prerequisites — you belong here simply because you chose to be part of this world. Whoever you are, wherever you come from, you are welcome and supported.
  • Radical Self-Reliance
Each person is responsible for their basic needs: food, water, clothing, and shelter.
  • Gifting
Gifts are given freely — without expectations. A cup of water, a smile, an invitation to dance.
  • Decommodification
No commerce, no advertising — what matters is shared experience, not buying or selling.
  • Participation
Everyone is a creator, not an observer. We engage, contribute, and build.
  • Communal Effort
We build camps, support one another, and shape the space together.
  • Leaving No Trace
We are guests on this land, and we leave it cleaner than we found it.
  • Civic Responsibility
We follow the rules, care for safety, and help those who need support.
  • Radical Self-Expression
Be whoever you want and create whatever you want – costumes, art, performances. The only rule is to respect others and their freedom.
  • Immediacy
Live here and now. Put your phone away and experience
    the moment.
  • Consent — “Don’t Be a Jerk”
Everyone has the right to their body, their belongings,
    and their personal space.
    “No” means “no,” without exceptions.

PLAMEN as a Social Experiment

We are building a community around creativity and self-expression.

Any idea can come to life here: a wooden lighthouse,

a glowing ribbon portal, an immersive performance, a field sauna, or any other installation.

If you don’t have a specific idea yet but feel inspired

by Burning Man culture — join us.

Art doesn’t have to be huge or complex.

A simple idea that resonates with you is what matters most.

Ways to Participate
At PLAMEN, there are no spectators.
Everyone participates: in a camp, in a department,
or individually.

You can: combine camp and department roles, take guest shifts, participate in multiple roles.
Read about the different departments.
You might be ready to become part of one of them.
(We especially need people for DPW, Rangers, and Medics — you can take a few shifts in a department
or join PLAMEN as part of one.)
